Tell Congress: Don’t Comply, Don’t Negotiate. Vote No on Everything.

Congress cannot normalize Trump’s agenda of chaos, slashing federal programs, and targeting of marginalized communities by trying to “find common ground” or worse, giving up completely because they “don’t have the votes”. Although the minority, Democrats HAVE power and they CAN wield that power with courage, conviction, and the support of the public. Fill out the forms below to send a letter to your members of Congress, then see if they have taken the pledge by stating they will vote no on everything: oppose the Trump-negotiated budget, block every nominee, and reject every request for unanimous consent. If they haven’t? Contact them on social media to hold them accountable.

But can Democrats really stop the Trump agenda?

Yes and no. They may not be able to stop it alone. But as a united force, in agreement that they will use their votes to stop everything they can: they can indeed slow it down, throw salt in the gears, and make it more difficult to enact quickly. Negotiating with the same people who have clearly shown they will do whatever they want, regardless of what Congress has passed or appropriated, is a shortsighted mistake.

Many of the decisions over whether the President has the power to do what he’s rolled out in executive orders have moved to the courts. While these incredibly important cases play out, we do not need to “obey in advance.” Norms and institutional processes have been thrown out the window by the Trump administration, Congress should not act like this is business as usual or find legislation to vote yes to. Even the nominees that won Democrat votes by projecting “common sense” have since worked to advance Trump’s radical agenda, regardless of their past policy stances or background.

The flood of executive orders and administrative actions was very strategic because it purposefully scared people, creating a chilling effect on institutions, as we saw when PBS took down their DEI page, or hospitals cancelled gender affirming care appointments. Those scared people need to see a unified front in opposition.

Voting no on everything is not doomerism, it’s creating a united front.

And House Democrats have already shown us that this is possible. At the beginning of the House Budget process, every single Democrat voted no on the framework for the proposed House budget, which promises to usher in massive cuts for Medicaid and SNAP. This forced House Republicans into a very tight spot, which is exactly where we need them.

We need to harness that energy and keep it going, and get Senate Democrats on board.

Take action today and let your lawmakers know they should stand up to Trump’s agenda and vote no on everything.
